IS2200 Assignment:
Background: PC World is a small-to-medium-sized electronics retailer that sells a wide range of consumer electronics, including smartphones, laptops, and accessories. They have a physical store and an online e-commerce platform. With the increasing demand for their products, PC World is facing challenges in streamlining their order processing system to ensure efficient order management and customer satisfaction.
Objective: The objective of this project is to model PC World’s order processing system to identify bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and ensure a seamless customer experience. As a systems analyst, your task is to create process and data models to represent the current order processing system.
1) Create a Use Case Diagram:
a) Develop a Use Case Diagram that illustrates the interactions between external actors (e.g., Customer, Sales Assistants, Suppliers, Managers) and the PC World’s order processing system. b) Identify and define relevant use cases.
c) Include any user stories, personas, or behaviours you develop for this.
2) Create Data Flow Diagrams (DFD):
a) Develop a Level 0 DFD that provides an overview of the entire order processing system. Include external entities, and data flows.
b) Expand the Level 0 DFD to create Level 1 DFDs for specific processes involved in order processing (e.g., order entry, inventory management, shipping) highlighting the data stores.
c) Clearly label all elements in the DFD and use appropriate notations (e.g., rectangles for processes, arrows for data flows).
3) Analyse the Models:
a) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using flow charts and DFDs in modelling the order processing system.
b) Identify potential areas for improvement in the current system based on your models.
4) Recommendations:
a) Identifies areas where inefficiencies might occur in existing processes.
b) Based on your analysis, propose recommendations for improving the order processing system at PC World, and what impact these recommendations might have.
Additional Information:
• You can assume that PC World uses a combination of manual and automated processes in their order processing system.
• Present the assumptions you make based on your understanding of the system.
• Think critically about potential issues and inefficiencies in the process.
• Emphasize the importance of clear and concise modelling in understanding and improving business processes.
Deliverables:
1) A well-structured report that includes the use case diagram, Level 0 DFD, Level 1 DFD, analysis of the models, user personas, behaviours and stories developed and recommendations. 2) A recorded presentation summarizing the key findings and recommendations.
