Hi Class,
For the Final Project, I chose to write and research the company I work for – UKG. As an employee on the inside, I believe UKG is at the Managerial stage. But, from the outside perspective, I could see the market assuming Civil because of the industry we work and the and the products/services we provide. To the consumer, they see the Great Place to Work summit we host, can participate in the Close the Gap pay initiative we are leading with our customers, hear about the collaboration with JetBlue to sustainably source the fuel for their first Boston to Dublin flight through our connections, and much more.
As a human capital and workforce management organization, we try our best to enable our customers to support the community and the planet as we take on key initiatives side by side with them to make a difference. But internally, employees can still feel the stress of our merger, are still engaged in making two companies become one, and the alignment of two leading cultures in our industry. As called out in our textbook, UKG is embedding CSR into core managerial processes and growing department to support sustainability, DBE&I, and community outreach (Haski-Leventhal, 2022).
We are on our way to being at the strategic phase in my opinion, which I think brings up a very important point that companies can move throughout phases of this period. In both short and long term goals, I can see UKG taking action to integrate responsible business practices into our core operations (Haski-Leventhal, 2022). In their 2022 Sustainability Report, they made commitments to reduce e-waste, their carbon footprint, and ultimately achieve net zero GHG emissions across our value chain by 2040 (2022 Global, 2023). In 2022 we had a security breach that I would say dropped us down to the compliance phase where we were in a mitigation effort that still led to the exposure of a class action about the data breached during our exposure.

Hello Everyone,
I hope the week is off to a great start!
The organization I chose for my milestone project is Old Navy. After reviewing my research, figure 2.3 and table 2.1 in our text I believe this organization would fall under managerial and strategic due to its current core values and initiatives.
Some major actions that Old Navy has taken to secure these spots on the pyramid include:
Water stewardship: They are aiming to reduce the amount of water used in production and replenishing what they have used. This strategy focuses specifically on access to clean drinking water to communities who are affected by the fashion industry, reduction of use in manufacturing, and replenishment in natural ecosystems. Old Navy started this initiative because they believe that access to clean safe water is a fundamental human right.
Equality & Belonging: In 2014, Gap Inc. (Owns Old Navy), was the first fortune 500 company to announce “equal pay for equal work” which ensure that men and women are paid the same for the doing the same job. They also implemented the Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement (PACE) program where they empower women with fundamental skills and training to advance at work.
The company also fosters inclusive culture by promoting their equality and belonging groups (EBG’s). These groups encourage community and connectivity for employees of all demographics. They also have The Color Proud Council which focuses on all areas of diversity to create products that are all-inclusive to anyone who wants to wear their merchandise.
Thank you so much for reading my post this week!
